Why Ventilation Matters

Benefits of Proper Exhaust

A working bathroom exhaust fan is essential for protecting your home and health.

Prevent Mold & Mildew

Excess moisture leads to mold growth on walls, ceilings, and grout. Proper ventilation removes humidity before it causes damage and health issues.

Protect Your Home

Moisture damages paint, wallpaper, and drywall. It can even rot wood framing over time. An exhaust fan protects your bathroom investment.

Meet Code Requirements

Building codes require bathroom ventilation - either a window or exhaust fan. Exhaust fans are more effective and work in any weather.

Common Questions

Exhaust Fan FAQs

What size exhaust fan do I need?

CFM (cubic feet per minute) should match your bathroom size. General rule: 1 CFM per square foot, minimum 50 CFM. A 100 sq ft bathroom needs at least 100 CFM. We'll calculate the right size for your space.

Why is my exhaust fan so loud?

Older fans are often loud. Modern fans rated under 1.0 sone are nearly silent. If your fan is noisy, it may also be dirty, have worn bearings, or be undersized for the ductwork.

Can I vent into the attic?

No - this is against code and causes major problems. Moisture vented into the attic leads to mold, rot, and insulation damage. We always vent to the exterior through the roof or sidewall.

Should I run the fan during and after showers?

Yes, run it during your shower and for 20-30 minutes after to fully clear the humidity. Timer switches make this automatic. Humidity-sensing fans handle this completely on their own.

Can you add a fan where there isn't one?

Yes, we install exhaust fans in bathrooms that have never had one. This requires cutting the ceiling, running electrical, and installing ductwork to an exterior vent. It's a bigger job but very doable.
